Inflation in Japan Faces Pressure as Unions Urge Stronger Action

Japan’s labor unions have called on the government to intensify efforts to tackle inflation, as rising prices and a weak yen continue to push up living costs, threatening to erode recent wage gains.

Tomoko Yoshino, head of the Japanese Trade Union Confederation known as Rengo, said that inflation remains a major concern for households, warning that the weak currency could further lift import costs and consumer prices.

She stressed that addressing inflation is essential to ensure wage growth outpaces increases in the cost of living, helping to protect purchasing power and economic stability.

The comments come as Japan’s government faces mounting pressure to balance economic support measures with stronger action against persistent price pressures.
